Recovery Suite - Cold Plunge FAQ
The Cold Plunge is a form of cold water immersion therapy. Our LIT Method plunge maintains a consistent, controlled temperature to trigger a "cold shock" response, which provides powerful physiological and mental health benefits.
What are the primary benefits?
-
Reduced Inflammation: Cold water constricts blood vessels, helping to flush waste products and reduce swelling in muscles and joints.
-
Metabolic Boost: Exposure to cold activates "brown fat," which burns calories to generate heat and improve metabolic efficiency.
-
Dopamine & Mood Elevation: A single plunge can increase dopamine levels by up to 250%, providing a long-lasting boost in focus, mood, and energy.
-
Immune Support: Regular cold exposure is shown to increase the count of white blood cells, helping the body fight off illness.
-
Vagal Tone & Stress Resilience: Training your body to stay calm in the cold strengthens your nervous system, making you more resilient to daily stress.
How do I use the Cold Plunge safely?
-
Breath is Key: The goal is to control your "gasp reflex." Focus on slow, steady exhales to signal to your brain that you are safe.
-
Start Small: We recommend beginning with just 1–3 minutes. You do not need to stay in for a long time to achieve the biological benefits.
-
Submerge to the Shoulders: To activate the full nervous system response, try to keep your hands and chest submerged.
What should I wear?
Most clients wear swimwear. Since the Recovery Suite is a private experience, we recommend bringing a towel and a dry change of clothes for after your session.
When should I plunge?
-
Before Class: For an athletic "spark" and heightened mental focus.
-
After Class: To kickstart the recovery process and reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).
-
Rest Days: As a standalone ritual to boost mood and reduce systemic inflammation.
What is Contrast Therapy?
Contrast Therapy is the practice of "vascular gymnastics"—alternating between the Titan Sauna and the Cold Plunge. This rapid expansion and contraction of blood vessels is the ultimate way to detoxify the body and invigorate the system. We recommend starting in the heat and finishing in the cold.
Can I bring a guest?
Yes! Our Recovery Suite reservations are designed for the Collective community. You may bring one guest with you to your appointment, provided they are registered in our system.
How do I book?
The Recovery Suite is available by appointment only via the Pilates Collective App or our website.
-
Wellness Founding Members: Use your inclusive monthly recovery sessions at checkout.
-
Legacy Members: You can access the suite for the exclusive member rate of $40 per session.
Are there any contraindications?
Because cold immersion causes a temporary increase in blood pressure and heart rate, please consult with a physician if you have a history of cardiovascular disease, Raynaud’s syndrome, or are pregnant. If you have questions about your specific health history, our staff is available to discuss how to safely integrate the plunge into your wellness protocol.
